– A breed of cat as old as recorded history, the Egyptian Mau (‘Mau’ means ‘cat’ in Egyptian) could be seen in the art of the early Egyptians. It’s believed that Egyptian Maus are descended from species of the African Wild Cat. In that culture, the cats were worshiped, protected by laws and mummified. The Egyptian Mau is the only breed of cat that has naturally occurring stains on its short coat. Found at a random pattern around the fur, these spots may also be found on skin. The coat may be silver, silver or smoke colored with variations happening between these 3 colours.
Egyptian Maus have striking green eyes and a strange flap of skin stretching from the flank to the back knee, allowing for agility. It is the fastest breed of cat, able to achieve speeds of over thirty miles per hour. Average mature male Egyptian Maus will reach weights between ten to fourteen pounds. Females will average six to ten lbs.

They are interested cats and want to explore, but they are also able to be lap cats, preferring the relative comfort and security of a warm and friendly lap. Egyptian Maus are extremely friendly with their own families and enjoy their company immensely, but are cautious of strangers. They are also known to wag their tails like a dog when joyful.
